姐妹 (jiěmèi) (2025)
Materials: Two-channel video
-
This installation consists of two video channels projected on either side of a projection screen and side by side. Each video shows synced footage of moments from my daily life filmed from two different perspectives: my point of view and the perspective of my younger sister. The result is a juxtaposition of my experience as an older sister with my sister’s experience as a younger sister, exploring the nature of our bond from a new vantage point (literally putting ourselves in each other’s shoes). The left channel is titled “姐姐 (jiějie)”, meaning “older sister” in Mandarin, and the right channel is “妹妹 (mèimei)” meaning younger sister. The combined title “姐妹 (jiěmèi)” means “sisters”, whose spelling reflects the visual presentation of the installation. Each channel plays its own audio, sonically presenting the shared physical space from opposing angles.
